Music

Music matters in the Early Years. Children are born ready to learn, and what better way to create positive learning relationships, than through the art of music.

We use music in multiple ways, for example, to sing and dance, to mimic the beat with a variety of instruments, or to help soothe us to sleep and rest. Music can benefit children’s communication, language & literacy, creativity and imagination and physical development.

Outdoors

The large Nursery garden offers so many opportunities for children to experience, learn about, and care for living things. The Sensory Garden has fruit, vegetables and strong-smelling herbs growing for all children to look after and explore using all of their senses.

There are mirrors, windchimes, an enchanted area and a bug house to spark imagination, awe and wonder.

Being outdoors is a natural way to support well-being for both adults and children. The greenery, the smells, the sounds, the elements, all play a positive role in our mental health. Experiencing all weather conditions supports our little scientists during their thrilling outdoor play.

Stories

The children’s rooms are rich in print, offering lots of opportunities to inspire children to read. There is a wide variety of books available for the children, including stories, information and texture books, which can be shared with others, or observed independently.

Storytelling is so important for children’s receptive and expressive language, attention span and listening, and also sequencing skills.

The available puppets and story props, compliment some well-loved stories, including The Gruffalo, Handa’s Surprise and The 3 Little Pigs, by making them even more exciting and fun!

We also have a lending library in the Nursery Reception for children and parents to choose books to share at home.
